ACADEMIC INFORMATION
ADMISSION TO THE INSTITUTE

To become a student of MTI, an application form must be completed and submitted for assessment.  This form is available at our website: http://www.creativetvjamaica.com/Media Technology Institute/inde.html or may be collected at the Main Office of MTI or from any of out outreach centres.

The applicant will also need to ensure that he/she has clearly identified the programme of study, module, seminar or workshop and the desired elective(s) as relevant, to be pursued. It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that s/he has made the appropriate selection of courses for the programme of study and/or has taken any stipulated prerequisites.

However, the Principal, Head of Department and other staff will be available to assist with advice and counselling regarding the choice of courses and programmes available.

Diploma Programmes

Examinations
Students seeking admission into the Diploma programme must comply with at least one of the following requirements:
Four General Certificate of Education (GCE) Ordinary Level Subjects with grades A to C; or Caribbean Examination Council (CXC) General Proficiency passes at Grades 1and 2 (and at Grade 3 obtained after1998), including English Language.

Secondary School Certificate (SSC) passes at Ranges 4 and 5 are accepted along with a combination of the above.
A minimum score of 900 on the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) for students outside of the English Speaking Caribbean.

Mature Age Entrance
Applicants over the age of 25 may be granted admission based on their work experience, maturity, and performance on the Work Experience Equivalent Examination (WEEE). Interviews will be conducted and recommendations requested from employers for evaluation for these applicants.

The MTI as a student-centered institution is also pleased to offer prospective mature students the opportunity to participate in our Prior Learning Assessment programme.  Through this programme, learning accomplishments are assessed to determine  any exemptions that maybe granted for  verifiable expertise gathered on the job. No more than 6 credits may be assigned from this route. 

You may only be awarded credit for verifiable knowledge gained and not for the experience that you have gained.  It is for this reason that your stated knowledge and/or prior certification must be verifiable. 
The evaluation process involves an assessment of your portfolio that should contain evidence of the following:

  • Relevant transcripts addressed to the MTI and/or
  • Originals of any certification that you wish to be considered
  • Samples of your work as it relates to the programme for which you are applying
  • Letter(s) of reference from your employer(s)

Professional Development Certificate Courses
To pursue professional development courses to the certificate level, students are required to have completed secondary education and have passed a minimum of CXC English Language and one other subject.

Workshops and Seminars
Our Workshops and Seminars are open to mature individuals desirous of upgrading their skills in a variety of areas in media and communication and for those wishing to keep abreast of the trends in the industries. Certificates of Participation will be awarded for attendance in excess of 95% of the Summer time.
