GENERAL EDUCATION

Recommended Course Sequence

SEM GTS        Global Communication and Society

3 credits

Students explore ideas of global communication and how they impact on the society at large and the Caribbean in particular.

SEM CS          Communication Skills

3 credits

This course centres on the development of the student’s writing skills. This includes a study of prewriting techniques; syntax; introductory, body, and concluding paragraphs; various methods of essay development (narrative, descriptive, comparison/contrast, argumentative, and process); and an introduction to research methodologies. Students must earn a “C” or higher to exit this course.

DD 1C            Computer Application for Media

3 credits

Students without the requisite computer knowledge are taught the fundamentals of word processing as well as Windows and Macintosh Operating Systems.

Sem TA        Theatre and Film Appreciation

3 credits

Students are introduced to the historical and technical components of theatre. The elements critical to producing an effective production such as aesthetics are taught. Students are also expected to attend viewings.

SEM PD         Ethics, Law and Professional Development

3 credits

In this course students are exposed to the ethics of the profession and the various regulations that guide editorial and broadcasting decisions.
